Written descriptions of the beautiful River Walk date back to 1536. The original development plan was established in 1929 by Robert Hugman and supported by Jack White, a local hotelier, and completed in 1941. The 1968 HemisFair event expanded development greatly with new hotels and restaurants. Today the winding pathways, chock-full of restaurants, bars, museums, shopping and hotels, spans over 13 miles including the north area to the Pearl and south to Mission Espada.
